Outdoors MissouriAdirondack Park in upstate New York is an overlooked treasure. It is much larger than Yellowstone National Park, and some would say that the fishing compares favorably to Yellowstone. While there are countless trout streams and lakes, as well as many opportunities to tangle with big smallmouth, pike, and walleye, there are three main attractions. The first is Lake Champlain. Champlain, often called the sixth Great Lake, has just about any species any angler would want to target. The most sought after species include smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rainbow trout, lake trout, landlocked salmon, walleye, northern pike, yellow perch, and bream. The next most popular water is the Ausable River. The West Branch is by far the most famous. It is a premier trout river from it's headwaters to joining the East Branch at Ausable Forks. Big brown trout are plenty. The East Branch also is a good trout river, but not on the same scale as the West Branch. The upper Main Stem is a good trout stream, and the lower Main Stem supports smallmouth and excellent seasonal landlocked salmon fishing. The last truly world class stream is the Boquet. From the headwaters downstream to Willsboro Dam, quality sized brown trout are the target. Below the dam at Willsboro to its mouth at Lake Champlain, the several landlocked salmon runs that occur each year are epic. Brooks and inland lakes in the high country almost all provide excellent year-round brook trout angling. Lower elevations lakes hold pike, walleye, smallmouth, and lake trout. All around, Adirondack Park is one of the world's best fishing destination.
