Lake Powell in Southern Utah is known to many as the best bass lake in the country. Largemouth and Smallmouth bass in the two to ten pound range are the target. This is a very unique lake, as it is a gin clear, emerald colored lake, situated in the middle of a red rock desert. Besides bass, you will find catfish, crappie, and bluegill. The tailwater of Lake Powell, (the lower Colorado River), is gin clear, and holds an absolutely huge number of rainbow trout. It is a drift boat river, with little wading access, but the river is worth it. There are almost 50,000 trout per mile, which is one of the highest numbers on the planet. It may be the most unconventional trout river around, surrounded by a great desert. ![]() |
