Mountain Home, ArkansasBack to Top TenAny angler that wants to tangle with trophy bass, and trophy trout in the same trip should head to Mountain Home. Nearby lakes, which includes Norfork Lake and Bull Shoals Lake provide lunker bass on a regular basis, mostly to deep water tactics. Also, either lake could easily cough up a world record walleye any day. These lakes are expansive, and somewhat intimidating, but the rewards can be great. Both lakes are gem clear, which demands four pound line for bass fishing The only trout fishing in either of these lakes is for a fair population of deepwater trout in Bull Shoals. Diehard trout anglers almost invariably head to the tailwaters. The longer, and slightly more popular tailwater is the White River. Excellent trout water extends for ninety miles below Bull Shoals Dam, and a world record brown trout is almost surely present, as well as an embarrassingly large population of stocked rainbow trout. Even us novice anglers usually catch trout. The White is a year-round fishery. The Norfork is almost exactly the same, except the tailwater is only five miles long, and a bit more crowded. The trout populations are about the same, if not a little better than the White. The same possibility is there for a world record brown trout. One danger common to both tailwaters is fast rising water, which can cause a wading angling to drown in a heartbeat. So be careful, and watch for the slightest signs of rising water. ![]() Privacy ©2008-2011 Last Updated Jun 25, 2011 8:43:20 AM Site-Map |
