Without going too far out on a
limb, I think I can say that that of all spring creeks that can be
found in southern Missouri, Crane Creek is by far the best. It is the
only creek in Missouri where you have a legitimate chance to catch a
five pound wild rainbow, and fish in the 1 1/2 to 3 pound range are
abundant. There are a few very important details about this creek you
must know to be successful. Trout have not been stocked in many years,
and all of the fish are wild. They probably won't respond to many trout
park techniques. They are McCloud River Rainbow trout, which is a very
rare species of trout. Also, the creek is somewhat susceptible to low
water. This doesn't lower the trout population very much, but it does
make it easier for the trout to see you. ![]() |
