I moved to the Space Coast in 1997 after doing research on what I considered the best inshore and near shore fishing areas in the country. I picked East Central Florida for a variety of reasons. Location near Orlando, the tourist capital of the world with the Disney and Universal resorts just a short drive away was a no brainer. Less than an hour’s drive in some areas make it easy and fast to be on the water stalking giant redfish, gator trout and tackle busting snook and tarpon. I live in Melbourne less than five minutes away from the nearest launching ramp, but I trailer North as far as Mosquito Lagoon and South to Sebastian Inlet. In between we have The Indian River Lagoon, Banana River and Cape Canaveral located just South of The Kennedy Space Center. Time it right and see a Shuttle launch or landing while battling a thirty plus pound redfish! Near shore fishing can include cobia, tripletail, snook, tarpon and kingfish and don’t forget the sharks! In other words, you have shots at multiple species so don’t get hung up on just one! |
